Mick Jenkins is a Chicago-based artist with a truly unique approach to his sound and lyrics. Self-admittedly, Mick is a product of his own musical environment, as he wears his Chicago influences on a sleeve. The local music scene is incredibly diverse and influential: this is the city that gave you the electric blues as well as jazz and even seminal alternative rock (think Steve Albini). Mick's music echoes these influences, using hip-hop as a way to channel his creativity and broad vision.
His groundbreaking 2013 full length "Trees & Truths" as well as his 2014 LP, "The Waters(s)," showcased increased maturity. With his eyes set on his first studio album release, Mick compiled an impressive list of guest features- one notable one being with Chicago native Chancellor Bennett.
Days before Chance the Rapper’s 3rd “mixtape” dropped a vibrant soulful song leaked featuring Alex Wiley and Mick Jenkins. His verse in “Grown Ass Kid” is particularly striking in terms of his depth and smooth flow which makes it feel as though Mick is conversing with the listener.
A prolific and admirable performer, Mick Jenkins embodies all of this in his latest single "Spread Love," which he dropped last week. His upcoming studio album “[T]he [H]ealing [C]omponent” will be released in September!
