James Quick put on a truly captivating performance this past Friday (September 16) at the Howlin’ Wolf New Orleans. James performed an array of songs ranging from classics, like “Valerie,” to a “Cocoa Butter Kisses/Bitch Don’t Kill my Vibe” mashup, to one of his own original songs.
An enthusiastic, wide-eyed audience was not disappointed by any means. There seemed to be a few sound problems at the beginning of the show, but the problems were washed away with the simplistic beauty of James Quick’s voice.
One of my favorite songs that he and his band performed was a cover of Kaleo’s “No Good.” James tends to sound light-hearted, and subtle with a calming ambiance, but this cover showed the more powerful, dominating versatility that he is able to bring to the stage. The specially crafted mashup of “Cocoa Butter Kisses” and “Bitch Don’t Kill my Vibe” had the audience singing along with him throughout the songs entirety, showing James’s ability to attract the crowd. There was never a point during the show that someone wasn’t singing along, or strutting a little dance routine; James and his band keep the crowd entertained.
This may have been James Quick’s first headlining show of the year, but there are many more shows to come as this rising young star continues to pick up steam. Anyone living in the New Orleans area should take the time to see one of his upcoming shows before James Quick becomes a big name, and trust me, he will be a big name in the music industry. James Quick has the ability to move a crowd in a physical sense and in an emotional sense, and this is what made his show unique, fun, and an enjoyable experience for all who were in attendance that night. I look forward to going to see more of his shows, and I am excited to hear the new music that he comes out with.
